Saturday Night Recipe Swap Third Look

I just have to say that I have a bunch of talented stampin' girlfriends. Here are 2 more recipe swaps from Saturday Night's Swap/Dinner Party. These 2 were made by Gina and how adorable is that monkey? This little guy was retired last year, but he sure makes one heck of a happy little page! I can't wait to try this recipe for Monkey Bread. Yum!

I loved the simplicity and elegance of the 2nd page. This page uses the "Live your Dream" stamp set and this recipe for Rich Potato Casserole is awesome! We all got to sample this dish and boy was it tasty! This dish is good old fashioned comfort food and it really hit the spot. This recipe comes in handy when you are suffering from PMS and have those food cravings (as I had on Saturday night)! Tune in tomorrow night for some more adorable and tasty recipe pages.

Saturday Night Recipe Swap Second Look

Here are the 2 recipe swaps made by Tia. The first is for her delicious cucumber sandwiches. Such a light and tasty summer treat. The second is for her fabulous strawberry punch which we slurped down like there was no tomorrow. It was so refreshing. She used a new embossing techinique on the vellum for the glass and it just turned out adorable.
(I am prould to say that she learned that from me!)
Stay tuned over the next couple of days for pictures of the remaining recipes that were swapped.

Saturday Night Recipe Swap First Look

Last night the girlfriends and I met for our 2nd Saturday Night Recipe Swap. Tia hosted the event at her lovely home and this time we pre-made our swaps but did bring one home cooked recipe that we were swapping, so that we could sample some of the delicious recipes. Everything was excellent and we scarfed up Tia's fabulous Strawberry Punch, which you will see the recipe for later in this post. Here are my 2 recipe swaps and I ended up making both of them for the girls to try. All of the cardstock is SU! as are most of the designer paper and decorative elements. I tried to make a lobster from punches, but it just was not happening, so I ended up using a photo of the Red Lobster sign. My inspiration for the Mediterranean pasta salad layout was a skirt that was worn by the main character in the movie "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" during the scenes filmed in Greece. I just thought these bright colors and the beaded embellishment really touched on the seaside culture in Greece.

Redneck Woman Prada

So I was doing a little blog surfing this morning and I found this. This is what fellow Stampin' Up Demonstrator Kelly Swienton has created and has called a "Redneck Woman Prada". Now, I don't think that I am much of a redneck, but I know that I cannot afford a real Prada bag, nor would I want to spend that kind of $$$ on a bag when I can spend that kind of $$$ on stamp supplies. So this little bag seems to be the perfect one for me, as I get the best of both words. So I think I will now have to create my own "Redneck Woman Prada". Cards from tonights Stamp-a-stack class!

Here are the projects from the Stamp-a-Stack class that I taught tonight.
Many thanks to Jenn Dierks http://igotstamps.com for the great tutorial and card idea for the Fresh Squeezed card (glass of lemonade). Is this not the cutest card ever? Check out her blog because she has the greatest project ideas. We made this card at my stamp club meeting a few weeks ago so I thought I would teach it to my non-stamp club members that attend my classes. Tonight my student was Brenda so we had a one-on-one class and it was great. I just love getting to know my customers on a more personal level and having a one-on-one class really lets me do that.

I also want to give thanks to Michelle Fischer for the Kind Thoughts Card. Please check out her gallery on splitcoast, it is so beautiful. http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=14296
I CASE'd her card from SplitCoastStampers with a few changes. I chalked the butterfly and used heat and stick powder and DD glitter over the top to give it kind of a glowing look.

Time to call it a night. I need to hit some garage sales tomorrow, looking for some nightstands for my bedroom and then I have a recipe swap dinner party to attend at Tia's. I will post our creations on Sunday!

Fabulous New Blog to check out!!!!!

My good friend Tia and I have been inspired by a blog that we have recently come across. It is called "Movie Mavens" and it is a group of friends that reviews the movies or tv shows that they have recently views. Well, we thought it would be fun to review EVERYTHING that we experience in our daily adventures. So we started a blog: http://modgirlswithaview.blogspot.com/. We will chat about movies, tv, music, books, food and just about whatever we feel like chatting about. Since we both reside and work in the Modesto area we decided to call it: Modgirlswithaview. Please check it out and let us know what you think!

Tia's Sex and the City Birthday!

Here we are enjoying our drinks at Fuzio! Don't you love our lovely feather accessories? We wore them all night long and random people wanted to know what they were about.
From left: Ruby, Me, the waiter's butt, Tia and Amanda. That was one strong drink that I had. It was supposed to be a Mango Sangria, but it tasted like nothing but Rum and Wine. Needless to say, those that know me know that I am NOT a drinker, so my legs were like Jello when we left place!

Yes, I am sure that I violated every copyright infringement law by duplicating the soundtrack for my 3 friends, so let me just say that if you haven't purchased this soundtrack, you really need to, especially if you are a SATC fan. The song "Labels of Love" by Fergie is a very catchy, upbeat reworked version of the theme song from the SATC tv show. The tracks by Jennifer Hudson and India.Arie are very good as well.
A few Saturday nights back, the girls (Tia, Ruby & Amanda) and I went out for a belated celebration in honor of Tia's 20 + 11 birthday. We went out for dinner and drinks at Fuzio, saw the "Sex and the City" movie (again-I could see it 100 times), hung out at some festival/concert thing in downtown Modesto, had dessert at Firkin & Fox (Irish Pub) and then paid a visit to the local "toy store"! All in all we had a really fun night (in spite of the protesters outside of the Brendan Movie Theatre - they were not going to rain on our parade!). Here are the party bags that I made for the SATC theme that Tia wanted. I wanted to have something modern to go with the movie (hence, the feather on the bag to match Carrie's hideous wedding feather in the movie) so I used black, pink, lime and a soft turqoise. Inside the bags were CD holders that I made with copies of the soundtrack inside as well other items that tied into the movie:
Triple X Vitamin Water, Decorator Tissue (for the sappy scenes), nail polish with names that matched scenes in the movie, scrapbook pages to save our memories on, some really cute purse memo books w/pens (Thanks to $1.00 bin at Michael's) as well as Hershey's Rasberry Chocolate Bliss Candy (just because the wrappers matched everything else)! Everyone seemed to enjoy them and we all painted our nails before we went out!

Happy Birthday, Dad!

Here is a card that I made a few weeks ago for my Dad's 70th birthday (June 19th) that we celebrated today, so I am now able to post it. I used Loads of Love, one of my favorite older SU! stamp sets, and Spring Breeze DSP. I used heat and stick powder and Dazzling Diamonds glitter on top of my stamped image to give it that extra sparkle! It is hard to tell from this pic, but I also colored in my Silver Hodgepodge brads with Orange and Navy Sharpies (New tip from Patty Bennett!). My dad is a truck man so I knew he would like this stamp set. This DS paper has become one of my fave color combos and I will be sad if it is on the retired accessories list.

I hope my dad was happy with his birthday gifts; I know he enjoyed his garlic prawns from Las Casuelas. Before we took him out to eat, we gave him his gifts. (Will post a pic later) I found a really neat black metal truck sculpture for his front yard and I loaded up the bed of the truck with his gifts (will post photo later). He received "The Bucket List" DVD, a new photo album for his old pics, (he had them in a horrible sticky paged album...not acid free!), a box of the new White Chocolate Mint M & M's, and a custom CD that Lindsey and I made from Itunes. We called it "Bob's Tune-Up Garage" and included 23 songs that are about cars, trucks, racing, etc. I used a photo of a restored Flying A Gas Station in Oregon for the cover. My grandpa used to own a Flying A gas station in Oregon many years ago. I photoshopped the name "Bob's Tune up Garage" on the picture so it looked like that was the name of the station. (See pic above). I also gave him a framed picture of the lighthouse that is in the town he was born in, Port Orford, Oregon (also posted above). The lighthouse is on Cape Blanco which happens to be the farthest western point in the United States (a little geography lesson for you)! He also got a newspaper birthday greeting in last Sunday's Modesto Bee which I posted a preview of last month.
It was a good weekend for me and what makes is even better is that I am on vacation this week.....wooooohooooo!!!!! Yesterday was awesome because my good friend Tia and I drove to Hercules to attend one of Patty Bennett's classes. We made an awesome project (which you can currently view on her blog here: http://pattystamps.typepad.com. I will post a pic of mine later. She invited us to join her and her other students/friends for dinner (which I would have loved) but we had to get back to the valley early. We had a great time and she is such a wonderful teacher. I learned a lot from her and I will definitely sign up for more classes.
That's all for now. Lindsey is fighting me for the computer so she can play her Sims game and I have to get to work on some more recipe swaps. Ciao!

Out of my comfort zone!

Here is a card that I made a couple of weekends ago while I was watching the movie "Ed TV", and I mean it literally took me the whole movie to make this card! I went out of my comfort zone and cut out all of my flowers and the leaves and vines as well. I am not very fond of cutting things out as I do not have the patience for it. This card took a very long time but I think it came out pretty nice, if I do say so myself. Definitely not a swap card! Here are the details (all products SU! of course): Time Well Spent Level 3 Hostess stamp set, Old Olive Textured CS, Blue Bayou, Pumpkin Pie and Whisper White CS, Spring Break DSP (my new fave!), white gel pen, rhinestone brads. I ordered this paper just recently to give this color combo a try and I really like it! I don't usually use this combo but I think the colors really pop. You can see another card with this combo in a few posts down. Hope you like it! Now I must go to prep the materials for next Saturday's Stamp Tramp meeting. Have a great week!

Cherries for the Cherry!

Here is a little gift that I put together for a dear friend of mine, Karen Cherry, hence the theme! I am sure she is tired of getting cherry presents, but since I had never given her a gift bearing the fruit of her name (hee-hee) I thought I was entitled to do it at least once. I saw these adorable cherry items at Target on a recent shopping trip and could not resist and it was just in time for her birthday (May 23). I loved the little cheese spreaders and selection of colors and I even found this cute little tin container to hold it all. The image on the left is a fridge magnet that I made using SU! chipboard, stamps and inks. I used the rock and roll effect to make the "Ranier Cherries" which I thought were a nice change from the regular "Bing" cherry. Anyway, I hope she enjoys her goodies and I hope you all enjoy taking a gander at them. By the way, I made her card using a heat and stick/glitter technique that I had just learned from my wonderful SU! upline, Kim. Thanks, Kim, for yet another super idea!

Happy Birthday Patty

Last week was a fellow blogger, SU demo and great lady, Patty Bennett's birthday and she issued a challenge to her fans to send a birthday card in which she would pick 3 winners to receive prizes. The rest of the cards would be featured on her blog. Well I made her one of my fave cards and sent it. It did not win, but it was featured on her blog yesterday, and I was very proud to be included with all of the wonderful ladies that wished Patty a very happy bday. Here is the card I made. I will post info on it later. Have a great Friday!
